O que aconteceu

Em Jēkabpils, mais de 300 pessoas e perto de 200 veículos firewood and joiners with tractors and grain wagons participated in a protest under the slogan «Não ao grão ensanguentado!». The demonstrators called on the Latvian government to completely stop rail transit of grain from Russia and the occupied territories of Ukraine. The initiative was led by farmer and civic activist Gundars Kalve, and some participants said Latvian farmers also suffer losses because of the transit.

Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs attended the protest. He acknowledged that the transit should end, but said an immediate decision had not been reached because there is no unanimity in the EU and unilateral action by Latvia could have negative economic consequences. According to him, a draft law is planned for submission to the Sejm that would stop new contracts for the transit of Russian grain. On the following week, ministries were due to coordinate their actions on the proposal.
